Truchcoisca (Tru) Raymond Fentis-Nichols was born on October 11, 2011, to a mother who unfortunately could not care for him. Tru, who had been placed in the foster care system, would eventually enter our lives as a foster child in December 2011. Tru was adopted by a single mother who was courageous enough to take him out of the system and provide him with a permanent family.
At 9 months, Tru began walking. He was able to pull his own weight by pulling himself up onto the side of the table as he tried to see what was on top. By the time he was a year old, he was fearlessly jumping off everything. As we all watched Tru run, fall, get up, never giving up, his mother decided to introduce him to gymnastics. Tru immediately fell in love with the sport. Gymnastics has been such a great benefit to Tru’s life. Its teaching him patience, how to work within a team and has provided him with confidence. Many people have been supportive of Thru since the beginning. However, we must recognize Coach Reggie, who teaches boys gymnastics at the Harrison Chicago Park District. Coach Reggie understands Tru on his bad days as well as good. Coach Reggie has been a source of unwavering support and devotion to Tru. Not only has he been an exceptional coach, but he has also been a fantastic male role model for him. As many people are aware, raising a young man in Chicago is quite challenging, which is why it was necessary to find something to keep Tru occupied, and why we are grateful Coach Reggie has been here to help.
Tru is an excellent student who strives for perfection in all he does. In addition, he has a strong enthusiasm for astronomy, dinosaurs, vehicles, and legos. We want to continue supporting Tru’s gymnastics endeavors by providing him with private lessons in preparation for major competitions.
